Luminance unveiled a legal AI model cutting contract review time from 150 to 30 minutes.

Why it matters: Few legal tech companies create AI designed specifically for contracts; this boosts efficiency for lawyers and legal ops. It enables faster, more accurate contract workflows, crucial in high-volume environments.

  • Luminance’s AI trained on 150M+ verified legal documents, focused on contracts.
  • Contract review time reduced by 80%, from 150 minutes to 30 minutes per contract.
  • Platform processes 80% of contracts without direct legal team involvement.
  • Raised $75M in Series C funding led by Point72 Private Investments in February 2025.

Luminance has introduced a proprietary large language model (LLM) designed specifically for legal contract workflows. It is trained on over 150 million verified legal documents to automate contract drafting, negotiation, and analysis with increased speed and accuracy.

The AI platform currently supports more than 700 organizations across 70 countries, including law firms and multinational corporations. According to a LexisNexis press release, the average contract review time has dropped from approximately 150 minutes to 30 minutes, representing an 80% reduction. The system now processes roughly 80% of contracts without requiring direct review by legal teams, enabling lawyers to focus on higher-value work.

In February 2025, Luminance secured $75 million in a Series C funding round led by Point72 Private Investments. CEO Eleanor Lightbody stated the funds will fuel expansion in the U.S.—currently 40% of revenue—as well as global hiring and office growth.

The company also formed a strategic partnership with LexisNexis. This alliance integrates authoritative legal AI content into Luminance’s platform to enhance accuracy and dependability for users.

Client feedback highlights the platform's operational impact. Tim Siewert-La Chon, Head of Legal at Trench Group, said the technology removed bottlenecks in document review, allowing his team to prioritize strategic business advice. Abdelrahman Sherif, Deputy General Counsel at VFS Global, described the AI as a "game-changer" for legal and business operations.

Luminance’s focus on a legal-specific LLM distinguishes it from broader AI solutions by addressing contract lifecycle management's complexity and high-volume demands with specialized legal knowledge embedded into the model.

By the numbers:

  • 150 million+ legal documents — Luminance’s training data for its AI
  • 80% reduction — Average contract review time with Luminance AI
  • $75 million — Series C funding raised in February 2025

What's next: Luminance plans to expand U.S. operations and hire globally, aiming to scale AI contract workflows further.
